Explore a magical landscape and discover the indigenous legends that are told about it with this hiking route through the Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park.
Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park Hike
After picking you up from your hotel in Puebla, we'll head towards the Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park.
We'll start our hiking trail at Paso de Cortés: a mountain pass located between the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes. From there, we’ll embark on a 3- to 4-hour hike of moderate difficulty, covering about 14 km with an elevation gain of 400 m to La Joya, at 3,900 m above sea level.
Along the way, we'll make a stop to enjoy a delicious quesadilla and hot drink. Afterward, we'll continue our hike, where it's likely that we'll see examples of local wildlife such as coyotes, badgers, lizards, and deer hidden among the coniferous forests. If you're into mycology, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for some of the dozens of species of fungi found in the park. It'll be a truly unique experience!
After 4 hours of hiking and exploring, we'll head back to the main parking lot and return to your hotel in Puebla, arriving 7 hours after pickup.
